Simple core exercises for runners without a plank or crunch in sight..!

 

Most athletes these days, from recreational to elite appreciate the importance of incorporating regular exercises into our training plan to help prepare us to run, and most importantly avoid injury.

 

Usually these routines comprise of various ‘core’ and balance drills as well as strength and flexibility exercises.

 

 

When considering and choosing the core and balance drills, one guiding tenet can be to ’train the movement, not the muscle’, also discussed here (http://www.kinetic-revolution.com/train-the-movement-not-the-muscle/).

 

How well do exercises such as planks, crunches and wobble board drills mimic the specific demands of running? I’d argue not very…
